The General Secretary pointed out in his report to the Party's 20th National Congress, "Practice tells us that what makes the Communist Party of China capable and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is good is, in the final analysis, Marxism, which is adapting to China and The Times." This important statement fully demonstrates that the Communist Party of China is a Marxist ruling party that attaches great importance to theoretical arming, guidance and innovation. Having the guidance of Marxist scientific theory is the fundamental reason why our Party is firm in its faith and conviction and takes the initiative of history. It is committed to combining the basic tenets of Marxism with China's realities and fine traditional Chinese culture. The fundamental reason for the success and continuous development of the cause of our Party and country is to adhere to the guidance of Marxism adapted to Chinese conditions and The Times.

This important judgment is derived from the Party's major achievements and historical experience in its century-long struggle, from the successful experience and failure lessons of the Party's leadership in revolution, construction and reform, and from the Party's deepening understanding of the regularity of the sinicization of Marxism in the historical process of constantly promoting the sinicization of Marxism in times.

The general secretary first made this important statement in his speech at a conference celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. When discussing the important historical experience of "taking history as a mirror and creating a future, we must continue to promote the Sinicization of Marxism", he pointed out that "The reason why the Communist Party of China is capable and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is good is, in the final analysis, because of Marxism." The General Secretary clearly put forward the important conclusion of "Marxism in action", and at the same time put forward the important proposition of "two combinations", namely, persisting in combining the basic tenets of Marxism with China's specific realities and fine traditional Chinese culture, and pointed out the fundamental principles and the path to realizing the modernization of Marxism in China. However, the general secretary did not expound on the reasons for Marxism in his important speech to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Half a year later, on January 11, 2022, in an important speech at the seminar on studying and implementing the Spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, the General Secretary gave a clear answer to the question "Why Marxism is practiced" : "The reason why Marxism is practiced is that the Party continues to adapt Marxism to Chinese conditions and use it to guide practice." Although it was only one sentence, it got to the point in a concise and comprehensive way. It profoundly clarified the fundamental reason why Marxism did what it did, thus enriching, deepening and developing the important conclusions first put forward in the important speech at the conference celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. In this important speech, the General Secretary further pointed out that Marxist theory is not dogma, but a guide to action, which must be developed with changes in practice. Whether Marxism can play its role in practice depends on whether it can integrate the basic tenets of Marxism with China's reality and the characteristics of The Times. In the face of a rapidly changing world and China, if the Party and the state are stuck in a rut, inflexible in thinking, lacking the courage to innovate in theory and failing to scientifically answer the questions of China, the world, the people and The Times, the cause of the party and the state will not only be unable to move forward, but also Marxism will lose its vitality and persuasion. It is in accordance with such theoretical logic that when the General Secretary clarified "Marxist action" again in the report to the 20th National Congress of the Party, he especially emphasized "Marxist action with the Chinese characteristics and times", which is obviously a sublimation of the understanding of upholding the guiding position of Marxism. And "Sinicized and epochal Marxism" is just another profound expression of "the Party constantly promotes the sinicized Marxism and uses it to guide practice". The two expressions are completely consistent in theory and logic. The emphasis on "adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions and The Times" is intended to point out that, if our Party had not persisted in combining the basic tenets of Marxism with China's actual conditions and fine traditional Chinese culture in its centenary struggle, it had constantly promoted the adapting of Marxism to Chinese conditions and used it to guide practice. If our Party adopts a fundamentalist and dogmatic attitude towards Marxism and copies the experience and models of other countries, the application of Marxism in China cannot be successful.

Of course, the historical process of our Party's promotion of the sinicization of Marxism to The Times is not smooth sailing. In the history of the Party, there have sometimes been two wrong tendencies in its attitude towards Marxism: one tendency was to detach theory from reality and treat Marxism in a dogmatic manner, copying everything from the script and dogma without proceeding from China's actual conditions; The other tendency is to despise the theoretical guidance of Marxism, treat Marxism with an empirical attitude, pay little attention to theoretical learning, and be content with their own narrow experience. Both of these tendencies had serious consequences for the Chinese revolution.  What we want is a Marxism that smells good, not a Marxism that smells bad. It is living Marxism, not dead Marxism."  As a matter of fact, to say "Marxism in Chinese times" is exactly the basic conclusion drawn from the profound summary of our Party's long-term historical experience in promoting Marxism in Chinese times.

In the new era of reform, opening up and socialist modernization, the Party is fully aware that to create a new situation in reform, opening up and socialist modernization, we must lead the cause of development with theoretical innovation.  Scientific answers were given to a series of basic questions about building socialism with Chinese characteristics, including what kind of development to achieve and how to achieve it, forming a system of theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and realizing a new leap forward in adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions.

The General Secretary made profound reflections and scientific judgments on a series of major theoretical and practical issues concerning the development of the cause of the Party and the state in the new era. He discussed what kind of socialism with Chinese characteristics we should uphold and develop in the new era, how we should uphold and develop it, and what kind of great modern socialist country we should build and how we should build it. They are the main founders of the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New era, who put forward a series of original new ideas, thoughts and strategies on governance on major topics of The Times, such as what kind of Marxist political party to build and how to build a Marxist political party with long-term governance. All in all, over the past 100 years or so, our Party has adhered to writing Marxism on its banner, constantly pushed forward adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions and to The Times, absorbed all fine achievements of human civilization with a broad mind, and guided great practice with scientific theories adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions and to The Times. The scientific nature and truth of Marxism have been fully tested in China, the popular and practical nature of Marxism has been fully implemented in China, and the openness and timeliness of Marxism have been fully demonstrated in China. The continuous success of the modernization of Marxism in China has made Marxism present in the world with a new image, and brought about major changes in the historical evolution and competition between the two ideologies and social systems, socialism and capitalism, in favor of socialism.

Therefore, when we say, "Why can the Communist Party of China and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is good? In the final analysis, it is Marxism, Marxism with Chinese characteristics and The Times", the further theoretical logic is: who created Marxism with Chinese characteristics and The Times? And who made the Marxism of the Chinese era work? The answer, of course, is very clear: the Communist Party of China, because the Communist Party of China is the only subject to push forward the modernization of Marxism in China. Had the Communist Party of China not persisted in integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with China's specific realities and fine traditional Chinese culture, and had continued to adapt Marxism to Chinese conditions and to use it to guide practice in the long course of revolution, construction and reform, there would have been no Marxism adapted to Chinese conditions and to The Times. There would have been no Marxism in contemporary China, no Marxism in the 21st century, and no Marxism in the world with a brand new image and vigorous vitality. Therefore, the continuous success of the modernization of Marxism in China means the continuous success of the Communist Party of China, and the modernization of Marxism in China is, in essence, the Communist Party of China.
